One of our gripes with the new movie is the way it's being marketed heavily towards kids and collectors... The movie hasn't yet released, nor have we seen a trailer, yet there's collectable figures, toys, Lego sets replica props.
The movie is marketing towards fans of the original movies due to their huge cult following. (A little contradictory, but you get the idea). Ghostbusters fans LOVE the original movies and anything to do with them, like our awesome tees :) But revamping their idolised movie, with new actors along the same storyline is ruffling a lot of feathers and there's segment of fans out there who outright don't want to see the new movie. That's bad.
Also, the movie has not been released, nor have we seen a trailer. (After being promised one by December). Yet, there's already a huge range of toys and merchandise ready to go. Either Sony believes there's already a huge market they can exploit with original fans (although we know a portion of those fans want nothing to do with the movie) and they believe they'll make a decent profit from the movie and tie-in merchandise regardless. OR, they plan to back the movie with a crap-load of marketing and advertising.
Lastly, the release of Lego Ghostbusters, toys and merchandise, as well as kids Proton Packs is communicating that kids will love the movie. Kids of today haven't seen Ghostbusters and will be relatively unknown to the franchise. Those who have seen Ghostbusters and love the franchise are a mature audience and won't be buying toys.
We remain neutral, because unnecessary hate is, well... unnecessary and Paul Feig's creative vision may yield a rewarding experience.
